Volunteer

We are honored that you have chosen to share your time and skills with Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS). We know you will find your place among our family of staff and volunteers. We look forward to partnering with you, as we offer services to people who come to the agency for assistance. We are committed to providing you with a positive and satisfying volunteer experience, and we appreciate your efforts in supporting our work.

Volunteer Requirements

SFBFS welcomes all people, from all circumstances, to join our work. From bagging produce to assisting at our food distributions, there are endless ways in which your time, skills, talents, and passion can be used to make a positive impact in our community.

Please note the following restrictions and requirements to volunteer with SFBFS:

  • Minimum age to volunteer is 10 years old.

  • Volunteers between the ages of 10 – 15 must volunteer with an adult.

  • Volunteers ages 16 – 17 must receive parental permission to volunteer. Click here to access the required waiver.

  • Volunteers must wear closed toes and closed heel shoes while volunteering in our warehouse and distributions.

  • Individuals who are currently receiving services from SFBFS or have received services in the past 12 months are not eligible to volunteer. Volunteers are not eligible to receive goods or services from SFBFS.

  • In order to perform court-mandated community service hours, you must have a referral from Sacramento County’s Alternative Sentencing Program (ASP). We do not accept court-mandated volunteering from other counties or states.

  • Animals are not permitted in SFBFS programs and facilities. Volunteers may not bring animals with them. To ensure the safety of staff, clients, volunteers and the animals themselves, volunteers with ADA service animals will be considered for specific volunteer assignments on a case-by-case basis. Please alert the Director of Volunteer Services if you would like to volunteer and need to be accompanied by a service animal.

Friends ask why I come here when I could be going to a movie or elsewhere. It's because there's a hungry child or a mother who needs help feeding her child.
